Houses in Multiple Occupation
Oxford as a city has traditionally always had a high of number of properties rented to both professional sharers and students. In 2010 Oxford County Council introduced the HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation) licence which applies to households that are rented to two or more sharers who are unrelated. This is to ensure that properties meet certain criteria and are of adequate standard if they are being rented to sharers.
Landlords wishing to let their property to professional sharers or students may need to obtain planning permission to change the use classification of their property. At the moment the HMO mandatory licence only applies to landlords whose property falls under Oxford County Council.
Portfolio Properties are happy to offer landlords advice and guidance and assist you with specific requirements relating to the Council requirements and HMO legislation.

“I have been an Oxford based landlord for a number of years and was referred to Portfolio Properties about 4 years ago. I have found the team in Botley to be extremely professional, very approachable and on hand to help with the slightest query. I have been delighted with the calibre of tenants Portfolio have found me and my only regret is that I was not introduced to the team at Portfolio Properties earlier.”A Patel
